Interpol and Sunday Nights

December 6th, 2007

2nd December might have seemed like an unremarkable day, shit weather, grey Sunday afternoon. Little did we know that come 9pm we’d all be rockin’ our butts off. Yes sir, six of us Geniuses headed out to the RDS, met up in the Horse Show House. My God, what a dated kip. An eclectic mix of punters, regulars, Interpol fans, Rhianna fans ( I think their mothers were in attendance) and football supporters. In fairness, the Guinness was drinkable and the toilets were relatively sewage free. 8.30pm, popped across the road to the RDS main hall for the main attraction, Interpol. Got a few pints in, (one each) lights went down, no turning back now. Boy did they rock. They oozed coolness from the moment they strolled out, such a slick image. Hardly changed since they played back in 2003, playing the Village, then onto bigger things in the Olympia and now the RDS with a couple of festivals in between. I remember seeing them in Marley Park supporting a piss poor Coldplay. Had to leave when the lighters were lit. Might as well put the Titanic on the screens as well, sick. Anyway, last Sunday, they couldn’t have been tighter, the sound was fantastic, especially for such a venue. There’s not much movement on stage, this just adds to their coolness and really makes one focus on the musical output. All good things come to an end, so had to follow it up with a bit of Rock Karaoke in the Village, which also entailed popping into Whelans to check out the new space. Excellent craic. Paid for it all on Monday morning though……Farrel
